Bicycle Clown Brings Smiles to War Torn Countries

One man has traveled to date: 56,169 Kilometers for 1,508 days to over 49 countries via a bicycle! No he’s no Lance Armstrong and no he’s not some cool hipster fixie on a journey. He’s a man who lives a lifestyle traveling on a bike and performing as a clown in front of some of the most humble communities in the world.

Alvaro Neil aka Biciclown, is originally from Spain. He worked in the Notary Office in Madrid until one day he decided he needed more freedom in his life.  He sold his car, left his job, and hit the road on his bike traveling to: Israel, Jordan, Pakistan, Uganda, Namibia, Sudan, Iran, Uzbekistan, and China in order to put smiles on faces.  Many of the countries he has visited are war torn or in a state of poverty.  What’s his performance rate? Zero.  He doesn’t receive a salary or a paycheck. His only payment is smiles, thus Biciclown’s project: M.O.S.A.W (Miles Of Smiles Around the World.)

NIECEE’s TAKE AWAYS:

What it Means to Be Humble.  In some ways this story reminded me of Christopher McCandless (Into the Wild) who lived a humble lifestyle where he dropped any communication with people he knew, abandoned his belongings, donated his life savings to Oxfam, and hit the road traveling where his heart desired.  Sometimes we do get caught up in all the shiny things, politics of the world, and daily routines we sometimes forget about what’s outside of our personal silos. We may not have to be like Alvaro and Christopher, but sometimes a bit of humble pie may be an eye opening experience.
