Liquor Stores Are the New Department Stores

Youthradio.org did a great piece titled: “What’s the New What? Liquor Stores Are the New Department Stores.” Inner city liquor stores have been known to carry the trusty $5 white tees, but over time it’s become much more than that. Bay area rapper D.Willz even made a song about it called “Licka Sto Song” that talks about getting a pair of Jordans for $50 at the liquor store. Let see $50 for a pair of Jordans or $900 for a pair of jeans and shoes in Kia Shine’s rap “So Krispy…..” I’ll stay krispy with the $50 Jordans.
According to threebillion, today’s tough economy teens aren’t always recession proof if you’re not getting brand awareness out there. Inner city youth may be heading to the local liquor store to get a new outfit instead of the mall, but the same goes for kids living in suburbs. Thanks to Target being within a 5 mile radius from you it may be more convenient, cheaper, and just as cute as scoring something in the mall.

NIECEE’s TAKE AWAYS:
- Teens One Stop Shop Too. Just like their parents who are always on the go, they have started to think on a “one stop shop” frame of mind too. Kids & Teens have busy schedules too with school, extracurriculars, hanging out with their friends, and being on their parents schedule that sometimes convenience is a good answer for them.
