Oslo Opera House Plus Skateboarding Equals Killer Skate Park

The Oslo Opera House located in Norway has knocked off the Sydney Opera House as the only go to Opera House skate spot.
Architects at Snøhetta enlisted real skateboarders when building the opera house and spoke to them about surface textures that were smooth and continuous. Wired even gave their suggestions for tricks on these surfaces.
While the Oslo Opera House may be home to Norway’s National Ballet, it’s also opening up opportunities to cross cultural boundaries. Architect Zaha Hadid wanted the Phaeno Science Center in Germany to not only be a place for those seeking science, but a place that offered up its architectural style to skaters looking to do a 50-50 grind on the railings.
Globe holds their Slaughter of the Opera at the Sydney Opera House every year. Could we be looking at more skate brands holding competitions at similar venues with sophisticated architecture?

NIECEE’s TAKE AWAYS:
- Appreciation for Culture. A science museum that’s also a skate spot and an opera house that you can do a nose manual on? When sophistication no longer looks down on skateboarding is proof of appreciation for art, engineering, lifestyle, and culture.
