Ustream Streams De La Hoya and Pacquiao Fight

You either paid to watch the fight on PPV, went to a bar and paid a cover, got suckered by a friend and paid them a cover to watch it at their house, or like me and tried to find a viral stream of the fight online.

I missed the first two rounds due to the fact I couldn’t find parking as I was coming home since my neighborhood’s streets were blocked from the annual Christmas parade.  After doing a search on Twitter Search (Summize.com) for some ghetto person to stream the fight, we found one Ustream of someone using their webcam to shoot the TV as they were watching.  A few minutes into the round we heard the people watching in the stream talk and cheer in a foreign language.  The majority of people who watched this fight were either Mexican or Filipino, and that language sure wasn’t Spanish.  Immediately I started laughing because I being Filipino understood what they were saying. A few seconds later I tweeted about how I was watching a ghetto Ustream of the fight and a direct message came through that said: “@swalbers try www.channelsurfing.net or .com they usually have a decent stream of PPV fights.”  The amount of traffic that was going to the site had crashed the site. Fortunately, my boyfriend received another tweet saying they found a better stream of the fight.  By this point De La Hoya was ready to throw in the towel in the 9th round.  We pulled up the stream and it was in Spanish, but a much better stream.

So to recap, we were watching the Spanish stream on one of our computers and then had the audio running from the Filipino ghetto stream on the other computer.  How’s that for representing both ethnicities for the fight!

NIECEE’s TAKE AWAYS:

  • Ustream is Kicking Ass! I thought for sure Ustream was going to kick this person off for streaming the fight, but they didn’t and it was probably because this person received over 40,000 viewers last night.  If anything, that means more viewers on Ustream and brand awareness for them.  First the Shiba Inu Puppy Cam, and now probably one of the highest viewed fights viewed online.
