A Social Network House

One of my favorite sources for finding out what events are going on in San Francisco while I’m out there is the SF Weekly.  I stumbled across this article on their site mainly because the title read: Room with a Few - A young San Franciscan’s dream: A room in a nice house, affordable rent, and a built-in social network. It said the key words “social network” so I had to read up on it.

We all know that San Francisco is one of top expensive cities to live in.  You’re lucky if you can find a studio for $1,200 in the city! The tough economic situation isn’t making it any better either.  Many single renters are looking to move towards shared living situations.  One man in the Haight district provides a reasonable shared living situation the only problem is, you have to be really qualified to be a roommate.

Dan Nazarian aka “Danlord” owns a seven bedroom house aka “Tiger House” in a prime location and is a bonifide party house.  All the roommates who live here or have lived here, are an eclectic bunch and makes the application process similar to getting into Harvard! You have to really fit in and Dan & the roomies have to make sure you’re Tiger House material. So what’s so cool about it that everyone wants to live here?

Well, it provides you with a killer living situation but most importantly you’re mission is to create a living and breathing social network by bringing in new people with their own social circles. Basically Roomate A wants to get to know Roomate B’s friend and their friends.  Some feel that as you grow older, your social circles change so having at least one solid group to live with makes it that much easier. They even have a Facebook group called “I live(d) in the Tiger House.”

NIECEE’s TAKE AWAYS:

  • Reality Social Media. Sometimes we forget that the heart of socializing is doing it face to face enabling us to build relationships.  Social media is just an extension of communicating with your friends past, present, and possibly future.
