Gone are the days of “Where you At?!?!?” followed by the “chirp” sound that came from push to talk. Now that social is part of mobile it’s heading in a whole different direction: HIPSTER.

The Microsoft Kin has been getting a lot of attention this past week. Not for the phone and it’s cool social networks features for Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace, but rather for it’s very hipster-like marketing campaign. Here’s the sure fire recipe: 1 hipster girl from NY named Rosa, a handful of her friends, and an awesome video crew to track her journey. Bake after 9 or 10 webisodes and what have you created = A targeted marketing campaign! And of course if you need a little extra seasoning, add a few celebrity cameos.
I started to notice that T-Mobile was starting to push hipster-like ads in their campaign for the Motoblur Cliq XT.

Highlighting the social aspect too with the tagline: “Get Social with a Touch” as a guy crowd surfs at a concert. Oh wait for it…. does he have hipster-like qualities….I think so!!
So what does this mean? Does having a smart phone with social capabilities (that isn’t an iPhone) mean you have to look like a hipster??
The bigger question could be: If 5 years ago streetwear/hip-hop was a trend that peaked and died, is hipster it’s replacement? When will that peak & die? What will we have next to look forward to?
