Karl Fisch presented to his peers last year facts about the evolution of technology and global lifestyle. Scott McLeod created a version of Fisch’s presentation and presented to his college class. Then someone decided to do a Mashup of Fisch, McLeod, and a man named Jeff Bronman’s research in order to create a Did You Know 3.0 version.
Here are just a few of the facts that you’ll see:
- -25%of India’s population with the highest IQ’s is Greater than the total population of the US
- -We are currently preparing students for jobs that don’t exist yet…In order to solve problems we don’t even know yet.
- -1 in 4 workers have been with their current employer for less than a year…1 in 2 have been there less than five years
- -1 out of 8 couples married in the US last year met online
- -The amount of new technical information is doubling every 2 years…For students starting a 4 year technical degree this means that half of what they learn in their first year of study will be outdated by their third year of study.
- -Predictions are that by 2049 a $1,000 computer will exceed the computational capabilities of the entire human species.

NIECEE’s TAKE AWAYS:
- Enlightenment. Out of the points above, the first one and last one stood out to me throughout the whole presentation. 1) Does this fact support the comical video I posted earlier about Americans being stupid? 2) Maybe it’s because I’ve been watching too much Sarah Connor Chronicles but what if computers really did exceed capabilities beyond what a human could do? Would there really be a real-life Skynet or maybe there already is and we just don’t know about it?
