I used to be a regular at Pizza Hut, but ever since they changed their pan crust it hasn’t been the same.  I decided to switch over to Dominos and ordered a pizza online over the weekend.  Instead of closing the window after ordering, a gage popped up that told me step by step what status my pizza was at.

Step1: “Your order is being place” Ok easy enough.

Step 2: “Prep” Hmm..the light seems to be blinking red. I wonder what happens when it goes to “Bake”

Step 3: “Bake: “Jose is putting your pizza in the oven” Whaaaa????? Dude this is awesome!

Step 4: “Box: We packaged your order and placed it in a Hot HeatWave bag at 9:06pm” Hey, that’s cool! How come Pizza Hut didn’t do this?  If they did, they didn’t make it more obvious.

Step 5: “Delivery: You’ve Got it On the Way - Our delivery expert, Arturo, left the store with your order at 9:10pm” Wow I actually think they’re going to make it within 30 minutes!

Sure enough at 9:20pm Arturo was at my door with a nice hot and toasty large pizza.  Since I knew that Arturo was on his way I went down ahead of time to open the gate.  Good job Dominos.com!

NIECEE’s TAKE AWAYS:

NicheTributesTrendwatching.com called one of the top trends of 2009 NicheTributes: attributes/features/additions to existing products, making them more practical for specific user groups, while at the same time signaling to those users that the brand “gets it.”  Wouldn’t it be great if you every service had tracking like that?  You could take your car into be serviced for the day and know step by step the status of what’s being done to it.  Have your laundry serviced and know when you clothes are getting sudsy.  Waiting for the car service or cab?  Know how far away they are so you have time to prep via geo-location.  While you’re at it, take it to the next step and make it mobile so you can see all of it from your phone.
