Don’t Worry Jet Blue I Wasn’t Offended

Last week I received an email from Jet Blue saying “It’s been awhile..we miss you!” Why thanks Jet Blue! I follow you on Twitter so I’m not too far. A few minutes later I received another email with the subject “Our Apologies.”

Apparently the original email was addressed: “Dear Mr SoandSo” and Jet Blue had went on to explain that the “incorrect address in the email was due to technical issues with our database.”

Thanks Jet Blue for clarifying, don’t worry I wasn’t offended. However, had you sent me an email with an offer for a discount and then revoked it by sending a follow-up email that said what you did was an error and didn’t honor the discount anyway, then maybe I’d be upset.
On another note, I tried to find Mr Soandso via Google and ended up with a wonderful picture of Mr. and Mrs. So, they sell eggs.

NIECEE’s TAKE AWAYS:
- Dot Your I’s & Cross Your T’s. Email databases can be very tricky. Sometimes you think you’ve got everything on auto pilot, but sometimes cross-checks need to be checked multiple times and if not, hopefully you have understanding customers.

From a web developer’s point of view, that is totally understandable. You obviously aren’t going to personally write emails to everyone, it’s going to be completely automated, and using a placeholder like that is pretty common for testing and debugging. I forget to take stuff like that out sometimes, as well. I think people should cut them some slack
