Financial Troubles of an 89 Year Old Touches America

Every morning I watch Good Morning America before going into work and one story they covered during their Whistle Stop Tour not only touched me, but apparently touched all the viewers that morning. Paul Camyre is 89 years old and is struggling with his financial troubles. I figured tonight was an appropriate time to post this with the topics of tonight’s presidential debate.

Camyre is a World War II veteran, husband, father, grandfather, and a struggling 89 year old American.  During GMA’s Whistle Stop Tour (5 days where GMA broadcasted from a train traveling from city to city finding out issues Americans are facing) they met Paul Camyre who survived the Great Depression, but isn’t sure if he can survive the next day with his current financial situation.  They featured him for only 30 seconds and it was enough to get a response out of his fellow Americans.

Viewers wrote into GMA on how they could get in touch with Camyre and the outpour of response was tremendous.  GMA did a follow-up with Camyre last week and discovered that even his own family didn’t know about his troubles because he was too proud to tell them. People wrote to Paul and some sent donations, but this is one take away quote said by him that I can’t even top,

“I’ve got more smiles on my face now than I’ve had for a few years. A smile improves your face value,”

NIECEE’s  TAKE AWAYS:

  • Paint A Picture.  What I loved about GMA’s Whistle Stop Tour was that they went straight to the people to find out what the issues are, and Camyre’s story along with many others, painted the fact that everyone is struggling in today’s situation.
