Freezing My Butt off at Winter X Games 14

I had been to X Games a ton of times here in nice and sunny Southern California. Perfect when it’s right smack in the middle of summer. Taking it to the snow this time was a whole different story.

After watching Shaun White win gold at the Winter Olympics, I just realized I hadn’t written about Winter X Games 14 yet! You know, the other gold Shaun White won before the Olympics!

It was my first time covering Winter X Games in Aspen and I have to say I didn’t over pack too much this time! Meaning I didn’t have to pay the $50 overweight charge for once :). Got off the plane in Aspen and what’s the first thing I saw on Buttermilk mountain? The bright lights coming from the Superpipe. Of course I’m going to check in on Foursquare for both the airport and Winter X Games 14. But darn, someone was already mayor of both.

Each day was a perfect weather day in Aspen. Warm, sunny, and great snow at least what I could see when I wasn’t behind a laptop. Even 50 Cent came out for a performance. I had forgotten how many hits he actually has. The Superpipe had a crowd surrounding every night and the suites were filled with athletes and industry peeps to the max.

I did take one day to walk around town and discover Aspen life. Sure you have all the people in town for Winter X Games, but I also learned a lot about the culture and history from our drivers. So much history in mining, science, and art. Best score: going to the Aspen Thrift Store and finding a cute plaid button down and a vintage Fendi purse for a total of $15!

Winter X Games 14 was pretty fun and with every action sports event when you work in the industry: “work hard during the day, and party hard at night” and make sure you’ve got your coconut water to recover every morning. The guys from Fuel TV swear by it.

I also have to give a big thank you to Mark Sperling for saving me and letting me use his MacBook Pro when all our laptops were failing.

Now to watch Curling in the Olympics. Not sure what team I’m rooting for yet.
