The Passing of Old Tech from New to Older Generations

Just because your older and you have more money doesn’t always mean having the newest technology is the best situation for you.

This past week my sister (who is 11 years older than me) was in town for work and to visit my Dad on Father’s Day with us. I told her how I went to the Microsoft Kinect aka Project Natal premiere earlier that week featuring Cirque du Soliel.
After she geeked out about Cirque she asked, “Umm so what are you doing with Wii?” I thought for a second hmm what am I going to do with my Wii because getting Kinect is a done deal for sure getting it when it comes out in November. So I asked her if she wanted it and she said with the biggest eyes “Hell yes, but you have to throw in your Rock Band 2 in too!” My Rock Band 2, the one I got early from Best Buy before it was even released? “Fine, but you’re paying for the shipping charges to NY!” I told her.

So why was she content with the Wii and not getting her own Xbox or Kinect especially since the technology is more advanced? Simple answer, sometimes older generations are perfectly happy with technology they’ve adapted to or they find simple and not overly complicated. I mean for the love of god why does she still asks me for music via CD? My sarcastic Gen Y ass has definitely told her “Elaine, meet iTunes, iTunes meet Elaine you’re going to be great friends!” proceeded by her hand coming across to smack me in the head. It’s true though, this is why some people prefer to use their Motorola Razr than get an iPhone.

So all those years she passed down to me all her cool clothes and shoes, for once it’s going in reverse and I’m passing up my Wii to her.
