Radiohead’s House of Cards Video Goes 3D

I’ve always been a fan of Radiohead’s videos and for them to do something that’s 3D doesn’t surprise me
The band decided to forgo the use of cameras altogether for their latest single, House of Cards. Using 3D video acquisition systems from Geometric Informatics, and 64-element, 360-degree LIDAR from Velodyne, in layman’s terms: A really cool 3D video made with math, lasers, and no cameras!
Why did Radiohead make such a cool video? Is it because Radiohead they’re just so awesome that they can release an album on their own website that you can pay whatever amount you want for it? Maybe it’s because it’s “Radiohead” and we expect them to do something out of the box?
Some experts say the reason is their fascination with “Grid” and how it’s going to change how we experience 3D on the internet.
