Dentyne Gum Campaign

This weekend I caught a commercial by Dentyne that had me guessing for awhile what company is pushing this campaign.
In major cities across the US you’ll see ads that feature people interacting in real life but with social networking messages. The message behind this campaign is that, “being face to face can’t be substituted,” says Dentyne marketing director, Josette Barenholtz according to the NY Times. If you go onto Dentyne’s website, a 3 minute countdown happens and their reasoning is:
We’ve got nothing against the Internet, but when people are surfing the Web, they’re missing the best part of life - being together. That’s why we created the first website devoted to helping people spend less time online and more time with each other. We’ve allocated just enough time to browse every link, but not a second more. So enjoy your three minutes, then get out there and make face time. Chop Chop. Time starts now.
A good campaign that states the truth while at the same time plugging a product for a sense of nostalgia.

NIECEE’s TAKE AWAYS:
- Disconnected. Not touching the computer for a day, not sending an email, not logging in to a social network is really difficult when you’re used to media snacking. I think that the message that Dentyne brings states the obvious, we forget that personal interaction has more value. Sometimes laughing in person or even over the phone is better feeling than laughing to yourself in front of a computer with a bunch of acronyms.
