Tell Someone You have an STD With an E-Card

A few months ago I posted about American Greetings trying to reach a younger demographic with emoticons.  When I had heard that inSpot.org created e-cards to tell your partner or stranger that they might have an STD I had to see for myself what these e-cards look like.

The first card I came across “I got screwed while screwing, you might have to.”  Then I spotted one that was in Spanish.  Then the third one I came across was “No one wants to be the bearer of bad news…But I got diagnosed with STDs.  (You might have one too) with an image of see, hear, speak, no evil.

After perusing through these e-cards, I wondered geeze if I go on Facebook right now, will I find an app for notifying someone if you have an STD?  I didn’t find an app, but found apps that were developed in a humorous game fashion.

I started to think to myself has technology enabled us to be passive aggressive in one of the most confrontational situations you could ever be in? In an episode of Sex and The City, Carrie’s boyfriend broke up with her with a post-it.  A “POST-IT!”  That’s definite passive aggressiveness. Have e-mails, Facebook messages, Twitter DMs, made it easier for us not to face people with confrontation? I think if someone found an email with an e-card that says “…has sent you an e-card” and this person is imagining something great, they’re going to freak out! Maybe in instances like this they would prefer it be done in a personal way.

NIECEE’s TAKEAWAYS:

  • Taking Responsibility. Although I said this may be a passive aggressive way to tell someone, at least you’re taking responsibility for your actions. And I think that the e-cards that inSpot.org has, expresses that in what their cards say.
