Yontoo App Myspaces Your Facebook

With the overwhelming marketing and branding that Myspace’s platform pushes has caused users to be overwhelmed and burnt out when it comes to brands. One of the reasons I love Facebook is that it’s not all crazy super branded like Myspace pages. Yontoo however, destroys that value.

Yontoo is an app that lets you make changes to a website once installed and allows you to skin pages. A nice idea for adding some design, but hopefully because it’s still in beta mode, they can work out a better model

NIECEE’s TAKE AWAYS:

  • Do Your Research. It’s really important to understand navigation and user experience when it comes to something like this. Just looking at the image RWW provided makes it look like you can hear the loudness of design when applied to one’s profile.

    Niecee,

When we developed PageRage for Yontoo we took the concerns you mention into account. We understand Facebook’s decision not to provide users with the ability to add layouts or skins to their profiles, and we agree with it. People that don’t want to have to look at pages that they think are “busy” or “loud” should not have to

The beauty of our system is that no one that does not want to see our layouts will be affected by them at all. If you do not choose to install our browser plug you’ll never know they’re there. But we get a lot of feedback emails from excited users every day. There are a lot of people out there that really like expressing themselves in this way.

We really believe that we’ve found a terrific solution here. How often is it that you can make a change that some people really want without having any negative effect on others who do not want it? We don’t believe that our system will have anything but a positive effect for Facebook users.

I disagree! I’ve been using PageRage for a year and love the added functionality of putting backgrounds on my Facebook profile. I do have friends that migrated away from Myspace for the reasons you mentioned - but the beauty is that they don’t see any of the layouts I add because they don’t have the plug-in installed. I still get to indulge myself with a variety of designs - and my non-design friendly friends aren’t subjected to it. Win-Win in my book!
