Four Square Making a Comeback

Over the July 4th weekend, I went to a friend’s birthday party and somehow a group of us started reminiscing about cool sports we did during PE in elementary school. Tether ball tournaments got popular after Napoleon Dynamite came out, and dodgeball got popular when the movie Dodgeball came out. So what’s next?

A few college campuses have started already holding Four Square Tournaments. For me, four square was one of my stronger playground games. I sucked at tetherball because I was too short, sucked at dodgeball cause I was too skinny, and sucked at kickball because I was too short & skinny; resulting in a short kick and basemen and outfielders moving in as I went in for the kick. Four Square however takes skill and tactic. Too soft and you’ll hit the line, too hard and you just may have given your opponent the right amount of force to push back. Why not make it even more fun with breakers and best dressed contests!

NIECEE’s TAKE AWAYS:

  • Reinventing old school. I think that it’s great that people are taking pieces of their childhood and reinventing them. You see it happening within Gen Y’s lifestyle and fashion.
