San Francisco Holds 2008 RollerSoccer World Cup

When I got into San Francisco last weekend, my friends and I decided to head to a bar that night to: 1) Watch the Olympics and 2) get the birthday people wastedThe down side, I was sick so no drinking involved for me:(  Being the only sober one, I tried to make the most of the situation while my friends were in a drunken phase chanting “USA! USA!” succinctly pounding on the bar as I sat in a “UGGGGH I feel like crap, but AHHHH I need to perk up cause I need to support my friends!”

In the midst of feeling like I was on a Sober Redbull/Vodka (upper/downer), I caught a piece of the news after the Olympics and said I’m going to feature that in my newsletter this week!

Last weekend, San Francisco played host to the 2008 RollerSoccer World Cup.  That’s right soccer played in rollerblades!  It’s popular in Europe and is now making its way to the US.

Is it possible that Rollerblading is really making a comeback, but in a different form???  I watched the athletes kick around a soccer ball in rollerblades and thought ok maybe not completely, but could be the equivalent of Urban Bike Polo, but for Rollerblading.

NIECEE’s TAKE AWAYS:

  • Sports Mash. As people express more of their creativity and innovation; their doing it with their hobbies and activities too.  I mean sure I can ride a bike, but why not add some competitive fun to it.  Sure I can rollerblade, but why not kick a ball around too and increase the chances of falling on my butt more.
